Wiley Wallaby Australian Style Gourmet Red Liquorice!!

Wiley Wallaby Australian Style Gourmet Red Liquorice!! Adam ate this on April 12, 2010

G’day!! Welcome to National Licorice day interwebz!! Throw some shrimp on the barby and get out your kangaroo saddle. Were heading to the outback to check out Wiley Wallaby Australian Style Gourmet Red Liquorice. And let me tell you, the Aussies are definitely doing this right. This honestly makes Twizzlers look pretty sad in comparison. From the texture to the flavor this just crushes anything us ‘mericans are used to. Even the packaging is so much more adult and classy than a clear bag o’ Twizzlers or, heaven forbid, a BUCKET of Red Vines (yes they exist). Actually looking at this closer it looks almost exactly like a Heinz Ketchup bottle…the ultimate in class.

First word after your first bite?  How about other words?

Fruit-tastic!

Did you finish the whole thing?

10 ounces is a LOT of licorice. This one was definitely distributed throughout the office bringing joy to the masses.

What kind of store did you find it at?

A tiny tiny gourmet food store in Grand Haven, Michigan called Fortino’s. They carry some AMAZING snacks and candies (including daily homemade baclava) and a pretty awesome selection of sodas (first place I fell in love with ginger beer)

Thoughts on the packaging?

Ketchup packet.

Stand-alone snack or with something else?

Probably a good palette cleanser after some smoked kangaroo ribs.

Best place to eat to this snack?

Ummm…..Australia……..duh.

And here's what people are saying:

Can you check the packet to see if these are really made in Oz. I think they are taking advantage of Australias excellent reputation for liquorice making and sticking all the australian references over the packet to make it seem like its from here. You should see if you can get your hands on Walgreens soft eating liquorice (US) or Capricorn (Canada) which is actually made in Australia and really good

It’s not made in Oz, never claims to be as it clearly says “made in the USA” on the back and “Australian Style.” They aren’t kidding though, it’s delicious!
