FruitaBu, Apple

FruitaBu, Apple Benjamin ate this on March 26, 2010

I feel so “grown up” when I eat these.  It’s probably the only thing I’ll eat today that doesn’t have high-fructose corn syrup as one of the top 2 ingredients.  In fact, they only have 3, yes, 3 ingredients all of which are natural.  Kind of amazing.  Anyway, yeah, these Fruitabu’s are a classic favorite of mine but since they can be a bit hard to find at convenience stores I don’t snack on them as much as a I’d like.  They have this kind of leathery almost jerky like consistency made of what they call “organic smooshed fruit”.  Give me a few more.

Did taste like it looks?

I’m going to go with thankfully no on this one.  It really does look like beef jerky with the fruit instead of beef.  Honestly though, they’re really good.

High-brow or low-brow?

High-brow in that “all-I-wear-is-Patagonia-and-drive-Volvos” kind of way.  Let’s just say you look smarter eating these than you do eating those Circus Peanut things.

Thoughts on the packaging?

Didn’t these used to be called Fruit Leathers?  I like that name better.

What kind of store did you find it at?

I only find these at the nicer grocery stores and deli’s I eat lunch at.  Wish they had them at corner stores and gas stations.

Would you call this a “grown up” Fruit-Roll-Up?

Super funny you ask – yes, I would call this a “grown up” Fruit-Roll-Up.

And here's what people are saying:

Funny you mention Volvo in this write-up. I just had my S40’s seats reupholstered with this stuff. Crazy. Gets a little gross when its warm out

Annnnnnnd…spelling error fixed thanks for Chuck. Thanks Chuck. And, I was just in Chuck’s car yesterday and yes, his seats are entirely made of fruit leather now. Pay attention would-be designers, he has truly arrived, living the good life.

I get these everytime I go grocery shopping! Yes they were called fruit leathers and that was much more intriguing. Mango is my favorite! They have these at meijer by the protein bars and in some Walmarts in packs by the fruit snacks. =)
